Engineering degree at master’s level (titre d’ingénieur diplômé)
Major Criteria and Procedures
The Commission des titres d’ingénieur (CTI) provides the HEIs with References and Guidelines “Références et Orientations” (R&O) which list the Major Accreditation Criteria.
The CTI revises its R&O on a regular basis in order to address the developing needs and changes in society and the labour market, and adapt the profile of the engineer of the 21st century to be promoted by CTI.
The current version of R&O 2024 is subdivided in 2 booklets :

New projects
For any new project, French HEIs are invited to follow the specific procedure for an ex-ante review (Lettres d’intention) and submit the application following the model available here.
Foreign institutions may contact CTI at any time via email :
The HEIs’ self-assessment file
A school’s self-assessment file consists of the following elements:
A self-evaluation report of a maximum of 60 pages which follows the structure of the R&O framework and which must include a form specifying the scope of the evaluation process to be signed and included in the self-evaluation report. This report also contains a general presentation of the school of a maximum of two pages.
The school’s digital file (dn), which contains the other documents making up the file:
- Various elements of proof, as indicated in the Major Criteria
- Specific tables to be completed by the schools
- Certified datasheets, which are an automatic extraction of certified data over several years. The datasheets are downloaded by the school from the same portal as the certified data: https://espace-ecole.cti-commission.fr/login . Schools with a completed self-assessment file due at the start of the campaign must therefore complete the annual certified data before submitting their application. Information on certified data can be found on this site.
Follow-up of evaluation processes
Table of the follow-up of the CTI’s recommandations for improvement
In accordance with the European standards & guidelines (ESG), the CTI monitors engineering schools and programmes which benefit from a maximum period of duration between two evaluation processes. Schools are required to complete a table on their follow-up of the CTI’s recommendations mid-way between two processes, using the model provided by the CTI, which can be accessed by clicking here. Programmes accredited for a limited period are not subject to such interim monitoring.
Intermediate report
The CTI may request a specific interim report on specific issues before the accreditation expires. As the subject of intermediate reports can vary greatly depending on the number and specificity of the issues to be addressed, no particular format is imposed by the CTI.
Action plan following an injunction
In response to an injunction, the CTI must be sent an action plan, generally within six months of the request. No particular format is imposed by the CTI.
